ColeMusiq Method Certification

ColeMusiq Method Certification provides the assurance of a consistent standard of delivery in foundation piano teaching. Any teacher meeting the requirements may be certified. Two seminars compose the requirement for certification at Level One which is the basic level: firstly, an instructional event which outlines and demonstrates the three areas of competence which are required for certification, and the other an assessment of those three areas.

Three areas of assessment
Each candidate for certification will demostrate competence in:

1. Playing through the Method. This exercise will take 40 minutes at M.M.=64 crotchets which is the minimum speed, but is not fast. Please note modifications below for certification exercise only!

2. Playing through the technical exercises and songs that are integral in supporting the Method. Three exercises from The Virtuoso Pianist by Charles-Louis Hanon (1820-1900) and five 5-note compass songs along with some simple scales in similar (parallel) motion and contrary motion fulfill this function

3. Explaining the Method--a viva voce allowing the candidate to articulate the philosophy and teaching methodolgy of the ColeMusiq Method. In this exercise, the candidate will: (i) establish the particularly Caribbean need for pianists who are able to both play by ear and by note, (ii) outline the history of the development of the Method to fill that need, (iii) show the Method's relationship to language learning, (iv) describe the basic competencies that are isolated for treatment, (v) list and elucidate particular benefits of learning via the Method, (vi) establish the gains to be realized through ensemble and multi-level playing and teaching, and (vii) manifest in a confident and convincing way, the ability to respond to queries about the Method.

Level One certification may be required for further levels of ColeMusiq Certification.
